“Please don’t let them fool you with fake Middle East peace—stay alert and prepare.

•  “Awareness – Make sure every family member understands what types of threats are realistic for your area (terrorism, active shooters, unrest at protests, cyber disruptions, etc.). Teach them to practice spatial, situational and environmental awareness—stay alert to unusual behavior, abandoned bags, or unfamiliar vehicles. Know that’s normal and not.

•  “Communication Plan – Have a clear, written plan for how to contact each other if cell networks go down. Include an out-of-town contact everyone can message for check-ins. Know your emergency meeting points — one near home and one outside your city.

•  “Basic First Aid and Trauma Skills – Learn Stop the Bleed, CPR, and how to treat shock. Prepare a trauma kit, most HSA accounts cover these supplies.

•  “Shelter and Evacuation Plan – Identify safe areas in your home (away from windows, solid walls), routes out of crowded places, and at least two ways out of any building or area you frequent.

•  “Go-Bag and Supplies – Keep small emergency and trauma on the ready. Have something on you, also at home, in vehicles, and in backpacks.

•  “Mental Preparedness – Discuss “what if” scenarios calmly so fear doesn’t control decisions. Practice what if drills at home, at work, and the places you frequent.

•  “Community Connection – Know your neighbors, and local emergency contacts. Set up a neighborhood watch. Strong communities respond faster and recover better.”
