Read the Protector’s Prayer
The Protector’s Prayer is a faith-based Christian prayer written by Nick Menster, a former state trooper and federal agent, to provide spiritual strength and courage for those who face danger, such as military members, police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics. It’s also adaptable for civilian first responders, including members of church security teams.

Protector’s Prayer began when Nick Menster felt called to write a prayer specifically for the men and women who put on a uniform every day. Not a generic prayer, but one that speaks directly to the weight of the badge, the helmet, and the rifle.

What started as a personal act of obedience became a movement. Officers, firefighters, soldiers, and their families found strength in carrying the prayer—on a coin in a pocket, on a canvas on a wall, on a card in a wallet.

Nick writes: “Looking back, God had been shaping this story long before I ever realized it. Faith came early, and it came easy. I accepted Christ in third grade, and grew up watching both my parents reading their Bibles—quiet foundations God used to form the roots of my faith.”

Since attention to church safety and security encompasses so many physical—as well as spiritual—dangers and threats, here’s a prayer by SemperVerus® you may want to say every time you start your security team volunteer shift:
Church Security Team Member Prayer
My Father in Heaven, your will be done.
Deliver your church—globally and here—from evil. Let no nefarious plan unfold at today’s gathering.
Help me to attentively safeguard lives and be your instrument for peace, orderliness, safety, and security.
Give me vigor to cogently observe and clearly interpret my surroundings.
Keep me proactively alert and aware.
Supply me with
the insight to swiftly discern good from villainous intentions,
the mindfulness to communicate with precision and clarity,
the wisdom to say the correct words to de-escalate conflicts,
and the confidence to act quickly and correctly.
Make me courageously fast and accurate to respond appropriately in any emergency or threat.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
